Gaffer Previews Rotherham United Clash

15 August 2022

Ryan Lowe feels Tuesday night’s game against Rotherham United will be a contest between two sides in confident mood.

North End return to Deepdale following a 1-0 victory away to Luton Town, whereas the Millers arrive in Lancashire on the back of a thumping 4-0 win at home against Reading.

Paul Warne’s side have enjoyed a positive start to life back in the Championship, taking four points from their opening two games, while their trip to Coventry City was postponed earlier this month.

Ryan said: “We know they’re in good form and in confidence after scoring four goals.

“But we scored four goals on Tuesday [against Huddersfield], and we’ve come to a place like Luton Town which is always tough to come to and hard to get a point, let alone three points.

“Rotherham will respect us, we’ll respect them and it’ll be two teams locking horns to get three points.”

The Millers – despite it being their first campaign back in the second tier after promotion – are no strangers to life in the Championship.

They’ve taken part in three of the past six second tier seasons, but each one has ended in relegation, something which manager Warne will be hoping to escape this time around.

There certainly hasn’t been a lack of quality in their performances so far, with the Millers four goals ahead at half-time at the weekend, going on to see the game out at 4-0.

Ryan added: “Paul Warne’s team is going to be very confident after that. They’re going to think they can go anywhere and win, and rightly so when you win a game of football like that.

“All we’ve got to do is we’ve got to worry about us. We’ll show Rotherham the respect they deserve, and obviously they’ve come up and they’ll be fighting to stay up there.

“I think Paul Warne has done a fantastic job over the years he’s been at Rotherham.

“We know we’re going to be in for a tough night so it’s what we do on the pitch that leads us to hopefully trying to get more points.”
