PNE Players To Feature In Cricket Fundraiser For Rio Spurr

30 August 2022

Preston North End are supporting a fantastic charity event being held this weekend in aid of Tommy Spurr’s son Rio, who is battling a rare form of cancer.

Tommy will be captaining a former PNE players cricket team as they go up against a selection of the club’s current players and staff, including the likes of Lewis Leigh and Ryan Ledson!

The 30-over game will begin at 1pm on Sunday 4th September at Fulwood and Broughton Cricket Club, located on Garstang Road, PR3 5JE. Please note, there is no parking available on-site.

Entry to the game will be free, however there will be bucket collections on the day to raise funds for three-year-old Rio.

The son of former PNE defender Tommy was diagnosed with cancer in April, and is having to undergo intense chemotherapy, while he will also require radiotherapy to his lungs.

Rio’s form of cancer, Wilms' Tumour, is only diagnosed to around 80 children in the UK each year and his in particular has turned out to be high-risk, meaning there is the potential he may need further treatment only available in other countries.

If you are unable to attend the game, you can donate to the family’s fundraising efforts by clicking here.
