Álvaro Fernández says he’s “very happy” to have joined Preston North End on loan, and he can’t wait to get started.
The 19-year-old put pen to paper on a new deal at parent club Manchester United before agreeing a loan move which will see him spend the duration of the 2022/23 campaign at Deepdale.
Operating as a left wing back, he will challenge Robbie Brady for a place in Ryan Lowe’s starting XI, and he’s looking forward to getting going.
Speaking to iFollow PNE, Álvaro said: “I’m very happy, and I want to start with this club as soon as possible.
“I wanted to go on loan and start to play at a high level.
“I’ve spoken to the manager about the football, it’s so good. I like his plans for the season so I want to start.”
The former Real Madrid man was at Deepdale on Saturday to watch his new teammates take on Leicester City in the final game of their pre-season preparations, and he's also spent time at the training ground too.
Álvaro said: “It’s so nice, the facilities are very impressive. I like them.
“I like how we play, the fans and the support."
Álvaro finished last season by being named as Manchester United’s U23 Player of the Year, while he was also a substitute for the final four games of the Premier League campaign.
“It was so good,” he added. “I’ve been with the first team a few times on the bench and I played all season with the U23s, and it was good.
“You are around top players, training everyday with top players at the top level.”
