Archer Joins England U20 Squad

29 March 2022

Cameron Archer has joined up with the England U20 squad after recovering from illness and he will be in contention to feature in Tuesday night’s game against Germany.

Archer, on loan at Preston North End from Aston Villa, was initially called up to the side but was ruled out of the first game of the break against Poland due to illness.

The striker has since been able to join up with the England squad and will be available for selection this evening as they take on Germany U20s at Colchester United's Jobserve Community Stadium.

It’s a busy evening elsewhere for PNE’s internationals, with six other fixtures which could include North End players.

Skipper Alan Browne, who netted an equaliser against Belgium on Saturday, will be hoping to be in from the start as the Republic of Ireland face Lithuania at the Aviva Stadium at 7.45pm.

Midfielder Ali McCann – an unused substitute against Luxembourg – could feature in Northern Ireland's home friendly against Hungary, which also kicks off at 7.45pm.

Daniel Iversen will be looking to make a first senior appearance for his national side Denmark this evening, too, as they host Serbia for a 5pm kick-off.

At youth level, Sepp van den Berg has a crucial game to look forward to, as Netherlands U21s face Switzerland U21s who currently sit top of their European Championship qualifying group.

Lewis Coulton will also be hoping to help his nation reach the Euros, as Scotland U19s end their Elite Round qualification tonight, facing Israel U19s in the third and final group game at 5pm. They currently sit third in the group, just one point off top spot, and they will need to finish first in order to qualify for this summer’s tournament.

PNE U19 goalkeeper James Pradic, currently away with Wales U17s, also ends his Elite Round qualification campaign this evening when he and his teammates take on Serbia at 3pm, but they are unable to qualify.
