Liam Reacts To Player Of The Month Nomination

8 September 2022

Liam Lindsay feels any of the PNE backline could have been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month award, but he admitted it’s nice to be acknowledged.

The central defender was recognised for his contribution to the team, having been part of the defence which kept six clean sheets in the month of August.

Up against three other players, Liam will find out if he’s won the award on Friday morning.

He told iFollow PNE: “Personal awards are obviously a nice feeling.

“It’s the first time it’s happened to me so it’s a nice feeling, but it’s a team game so I’d rather us be getting three points on Saturday.

“I think to be fair any one of us at the back and Freddie [Woodman] could easily have been there.

“Fortunately it’s me so I’m happy with that, but any one of us could have got it, we’ve been brilliant at the back.”

North End’s defence did finally yield in the previous league game, against Birmingham City at Deepdale.

Maxime Colin became the first player in the Championship this season to score past Freddie Woodman in the PNE goal, with his header proving to be the match-winner last weekend.

Ryan Lowe’s side have had a free week to work since that defeat, and up next is a trip to Ashton Gate to take on Bristol City.

Liam added: “We need to get back to our resolute ways, get these goals and get more wins because there’s been too many draws to be fair.

“We’re close and we need to keep it shut at the back and get some goals at the top.”

After Bristol City comes a derby at Deepdale against Burnley, before Sheffield United then come to Lancashire.

At the moment, all three teams occupy a place in the top six of the Championship, so they’re all expected to pose tough tests.

On the recent run of fixtures, Liam said: “I think obviously the travelling’s hard with the games coming thick and fast, but it’s good as players.

“You feel like you’re not really training, it’s just game after game, which is good.

“We need to try and get back in a rhythm. There’s tough games coming up, I think all three of them are going well in the league so it’s a big test for us, and it’ll be a tough week, but we’re all looking forward to it.”
