Gaffer Expecting Tough Millwall Battle

13 April 2023

Ryan Lowe is expecting a tough battle this weekend against a Millwall side who currently occupy a Play-Off spot.

Preston North End will head to The Den for a 3pm kick-off on Saturday knowing that three points will see them end the day inside the top six.

With Gary Rowett as manager, Millwall sit fifth in the table as things stand, with the same points tally as PNE but with a superior goal difference.

On what he’s expecting this weekend, Ryan said: “A tough game, a very tough game.

“I think Gary’s obviously established not just himself but that team as a top Championship team that challenges every season with limited resources and a limited budget.

“We know that going to The Den, let alone to Millwall, to face Gary’s team is a tough place to go, but it’s one we’re really looking forward to.

“It’s two teams in good form and on the same points, trying to force their way into the top six, but we know it’s going to be a tough game, a tough battle, but it’s one we’re relishing.”

North End will head to the capital with a spring in their step having won each of their previous three fixtures.

Those victories came against sides at the opposite end of the table, though, therefore posed a different challenge.

The manager added: “I think the last three games we’ve had were tough for different reasons.

“They’re teams fighting for their lives, fighting for points, the players fighting for their careers, but this game’s a little bit different.

Hughesy: “It’s A Good Time To Be In Form”

“It obviously spices it up because two teams are locking horns on the same points and trying to get into the Play-Off positions, so that’s why it becomes a little bit different.

“I must say Gary’s teams play a style and a brand, but they’ve also got some good quality players of how to undo you outside the box, with shots and little link-up plays and knockdowns and whatnot.

“He’s got all sorts of different attributes in his team, hence they are where they are because they deserve to be there with the performances they’ve put in this season.

“It’s definitely going to be a different type of game than it has been for the last three, definitely.”
