Gaffer Talks Good Friday Clash With QPR

5 April 2023

Manager Ryan Lowe says he will be taking nothing for granted ahead of a trip to London to take on an out-of-form Queens Park Rangers side.

Preston North End will kick off their Easter weekend with a Good Friday game against the Hoops.

QPR, managed by former PNE man Gareth Ainsworth, have struggled for form of late, having won just twice in their previous 23 Championship fixtures, however the North End gaffer won’t be taking them lightly.

Ryan said: “We won’t take anything for granted with Queens Park Rangers.

“It’s a tough place to go. We know that of late they’ve not been winning as many games as they’d have liked, but for me they’re going to be like caged animals putting it right.

“I know the manager will certainly want to put it right. He hasn’t got off to a great start, but I’m sure he’ll get it right.

“The fact of the matter is we’ve got to worry about what we’re doing, and if we do that then we’re a match for anyone in the division.

“But it can go two ways – we’ve got to make sure we’re right and maybe potentially take advantage of where they’re not good, but they’ve still got some quality players and individual quality that can hurt you.

“We won’t be looking at, ‘Oh we’ll try and do this and we’ll try and do that,’ we’ve got to make sure we follow the gameplan.

“If we do that, most of the time we’ve taken the gameplan to fruition we’ve got a good result and that’s certainly what we’ll be looking to do on Friday afternoon.”

Sitting five points away from the top six, victory at Loftus Road could put North End in a promising situation heading into the final six games of the season – which will start with a home game against Reading on Easter Monday.

Liam Lindsay: “We’ve Got Nothing To Lose”

After the international break, the staff and the squad set themselves a points tally prior to the Lancashire derby against Blackpool, which ended in three points and a 3-1 victory.

“I know we set ourselves a points tally to get and we’re on course for that, but we can’t just think we’re going to turn up at Queens Park Rangers and win,” the gaffer added.

“You’ve got to do all the work to win and that’s what me and the staff will be doing, and the players.

“We know going there, it’s going to be a tough place to go. They haven’t won as many games as they’d have liked and they’re down at the bottom and needing points so it’s going to be even harder.

“Look, we’ve got our own targets, we want to try and achieve them small targets for now, and then see where it takes us.

“This Easter period will probably define where we’ll potentially finish and, as I’ve said numerous times, we want to finish as high as we possibly can.”

The manager also provided an injury update on Ali McCann, who won’t be available but is only a week or so away from returning to training, while full details on Ched Evans’ availability can be found here.
