Stowell Pleased With Individual Display Against Shrewsbury

30 April 2023

PNE U19s goalkeeper Li-Bau Stowell felt he put in one of his best performances of the season in North End's 3-1 victory over Shrewsbury Town.

Goals from Felipe Rodriguez-Gentile, Kitt Nelson and Ellis Horan wrapped up all three points for the young Lilywhites in their final home match of the campaign.

But at the other end of the pitch, Stowell pulled off several tremendous saves to keep his side in the game and ultimately earn their victory.

“Personally, I thought it was one of my better games this season,” he said.

“I’m particularly happy with how I came out and claimed crosses, but I must say the defence helped out very much.

“I thought everyone was brilliant, they played the ball about well and scored three goals which is really good for the team.”

One particular highlight for the shot-stopper came in the first half when he tipped a low volley round his post after seeing it late.

He said: “I thought that was a good save and it was an important one as well because it stopped us going one down early on.”

Stowell is only 15 and admits he is proud of himself for already being able to show off his ability at the U19 level.

He said: “Obviously I’ve been training with the lads but I’m still very pleased to be holding my own at this age level.

“I’ve been working hard and I’ve wanted this opportunity for a while and I feel like I did really well.”
