Pottsy In Confident Mood Ahead Of ‘Tough’ Stoke City Test

31 August 2023

Brad Potts will be looking to continue his impressive record at the bet365 Stadium this weekend when Preston North End take on Stoke City.

North End’s No.44 has enjoyed his previous trips to the Potteries, having netted a breakaway goal for PNE in a 2-0 victory in January 2019, as well as scoring a stunning scissor kick in the opening match of 2022 in Stoke.

Ryan Lowe’s side will return there this weekend ready to face a team who have added 14 new faces to their squad since the end of last season.

Pottsy said: “I think I’ve scored a couple of goals there when I first joined the club and then I think it was when the gaffer first came.

“We won those games, but I think it’s totally different. They’ve got a new squad, a new manager compared to last season anyway so it’s going to be tough.

“They’ve brought some good players in so we need to just go there, try to be hard to beat and frustrate them really and hopefully we can get a win.”

PNE head to Stoke in fine form, having won each of the last three games, contributing to a ten-point return from the opening four league matches.

With the trip to the bet365 Stadium being the last match prior to the international break, North End will be keen to extend the unbeaten start.

Brad said: “I think going into two weeks off it’d be great if we could get a point or three points against Stoke.

“It’ll be a tough game but to start the season going into the international break unbeaten I think that shows how far we’ve come from the back end of last season when I don’t think we won a game in five, so that would be great and that’s what we’re going there for.

“If you’re not going to have any confidence from this start I don’t think you ever will to be honest with you, so we need to go there and like I said before carry on the momentum and keep the good feeling around the place going.

“Hopefully by getting a positive result on the weekend we can go into the international break happy.”

Away from football, 29-year-old Brad’s life has changed over the past few weeks, having welcomed son Teddy into the world earlier this month.

“It’s been amazing,” Pottsy added. “I think it’s probably about time I grew up to be honest with you, but it’s been a really good period for me and my family with the birth of our son a few weeks ago.

“I’m just trying to soak it all in and enjoy that and do as well as I can on the pitch really for them as well.”
