Match-Winner Liam ‘Buzzing’ With Performance And Win

26 December 2023

After assisting and scoring in North End’s victory over Leeds United, man of the match Liam Millar said he wants to keep contributing and help the team push higher up the table.

PNE’s Canadian winger was the brightest spark all day long and it was his ball in the 57th minute which was headed home by skipper Alan Browne, after the visitors had goalkeeper Illan Meslier sent off.

Leeds drew level, though, but Liam once again showed his trickery to make room for himself and curled a terrific effort into the top corner to earn victory.

He said: “I just try to do what I can. Obviously I want to come inside, I want to shoot, and if I get the space sometimes I can score a goal like that.

“At the end of the day, I just want to help the team as much as possible and get these wins. We want to climb back up the table. We want to go where we think we should be.

“I think if we can perform like that every week we definitely can.”

PNE were roared on throughout the game by a sold-out Deepdale, with the home crowd getting right behind the Lilywhites in a match against one of the division’s top teams.

After back-to-back defeats – the last one seeing Ryan Lowe’s side concede in the 95th minute – Liam was pleased to get back to winning ways.

“I think it’s what we needed as a team,” added Liam. “We needed to bounce back from a couple of poor performances, so I’m buzzing for the team, buzzing for the fans, buzzing for everybody and let’s hope this continues.

“I think today the fans really supported us from minute one and really believed in us.

“That really helped us put pressure on them and try to put on the performance that we did, and in the end the fans come a long way and it helped a lot.

“It was really important that they gave us all that support and it really helped all of us to make sure we got those three points today.”

Liam has now made direct contributions in four successive appearances for North End, having assisted three and scored two in those fixtures.

He laughed: “I think it’s a hard one because you try to be as humble as possible, but I think sometimes you’ve got to put your hand up and say you’ve played well.

“I think I’ve had a good game today so I’m buzzing with how I did.

“[When I score] I always tend to just run towards the crowd and do nothing. I don’t know why. It just happens.

“I was absolutely buzzing, you probably couldn’t see it on my face but I was all over the place.”
