Ryan: “We Have To Stick Together”

1 December 2023

Ryan Lowe said his Preston North End side need to stick together to get themselves out of the rut he feels they’re currently in.

PNE lost at home to Queens Park Rangers in wintry conditions on Friday night, with second-half goals from Paul Smyth and Chris Willock earning victory for the visitors.

The defeat was the Lilywhites’ third in a row and the manager is keen to quickly find a solution to the current run of form.

Ryan said: “Emotions and feelings are quite high at the moment in terms of disappointment because one we don’t want to lose many games at home, two we felt there was an opportunity for us to go and get three points after the performance on Tuesday night.

“Then obviously the fear around the place, and everyone being anxious, playing backwards, groans and whatnot.

“But we concede a goal which is a sloppy goal and we get it. We’re disappointed. The players are on the floor in there, they know they’re better than that.

“We can’t forget that these lads have been excellent and we probably shot ourselves in the foot a bit by having a fast start to the season with where we got to and where we were and the points we haven’t got of late.

“But we have to stick together. We have to find solutions to be better because it’s important that we do.”

North End started the season in superb fashion, winning six of their opening eight matches and going unbeaten in that same run.

However, as Ryan’s side begin a seven-match month, they’ll be wanting to get back to that kind of form to maintain their position in the top half of the table.

“We’re in a rut right now,” he admitted. “We’ve got to get out of that rut.

“It might take three, four, five days up until the next one but that’s what I’m going to bring to the boys because we can’t stay in a rut forever.

“If you stay in a rut and you’re getting beat and beat and beat and losing week after week, we don’t want that.

“The quicker we get back to doing the things we’re good at by the way, because we are good. We have been good.

“At this moment in time we’re nowhere near the levels so the quicker we get back to it the better we’ll be.”
