A brand new book telling the story of Preston North End’s footballing pioneers, The Invincibles, is now available to buy.
Written by the club’s statistician Martin Atherton, based on the records of club historian Ian Rigby, ‘The One And Only Invincibles: Preston North End’s Footballing Pioneers’ looks at how a cricket club formed by friends turned into a team which would go on to dominate football in Britain for more than a decade.
The famous team went 54 matches unbeaten in the 1886/87 campaign, before winning 42 consecutive matches the following term, and then came the inaugural Football League season which saw PNE become the first ever champions – without losing a match – alongside victory in the FA Cup.
This book focuses not only on those incredible performances on the pitch, but also the interesting lives of those who enjoyed that success.
Priced at £10 (plus £3 postage and packaging if required), supporters can enquire about purchasing a copy by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Profits from all sales will be donated to Preston North End Community and Education Trust’s Sporting Memories programme.
