Gaffer Pleased With Signs Of Progress In Aberdeen Victory

22 July 2023

Ryan Lowe feels he saw real signs of progress in Preston North End’s 2-0 victory over Aberdeen at Deepdale.

North End – who lost midweek against Ipswich Town – put in a dominant performance against the Scottish Premiership outfit and won courtesy of two great strikes from Mads Frøkjær.

During that match against the Tractor Boys earlier in the week, the manager admitted he wanted to see more from his side, so he was happy with the football played on Saturday afternoon.

The manager said: “There were large parts of Wednesday night I was quite pleased with but not enough.

“Tonight I’m pleased with a lot more. I said to the group in there we had to debrief the Ipswich game and work on what we can do better, and we certainly did that tonight.

“There was a lot of good stuff. Ultimately we know where we are, we’re two weeks off [the start of the season], but ultimately I want to see signs of progress that we’re getting where we want to get to and today’s been that for us.”

There were a number of impressive displays across the board for PNE, but probably the most eye-catching – especially in the first half – was that of goalscorer Frøkjær.

The Danish midfielder followed up his midweek debut with two brilliant finishes inside the opening 20 minutes of the match.

Ryan said: “He's drifting in them eight positions and he can finish, can’t he?

“He can finish with both feet and he nearly got his hat-trick, but again he’s still got a lot to do.

“He’s working hard; we’re trying to get him in the right positions.

“He’s calm and collected on the ball. We’ve got to make sure that his out of possession stuff he keeps learning on that because that’s important in the Championship.

“I’m pleased for him to get two goals. He did say that’s what he’ll bring to the team: assists and goals.

“I’m pleased for him but ultimately it’s not all about one player. The fact he got two goals in his second game in is pleasing for us and pleasing for him because he knows where the net is.”
