Manager Ryan Lowe was pleased to fill a position on the right-hand side of defence by bringing Calvin Ramsay to the club on a season-long loan from Liverpool.
The 19-year-old will officially join North End on 15th July 2023 and will spend the full campaign at Deepdale.
Since the manager’s appointment back in December 2021, Ryan has more often than not chosen to operate with wing backs.
Calvin – a Liverpool player since his signing from Aberdeen in June 2022 – is well capable of playing in that position, but also offers flexibility as a right back as well.
Ryan said: “I’m really pleased we’ve managed to get Calvin through the door on a season-long loan.
“He fills a position we’ve been looking to fill for a while as it gives us good competition down that right-hand side where Brad Potts has obviously been fantastic.
“It gives us options now, too. We’ve got a right back in the building as well as someone who can play right wing back.
“He’s energetic, he’s dynamic, and he can get himself up and down the pitch.
“Liverpool obviously invested a lot of money in him after he came through at Aberdeen so we know the quality he’s got.”
Following on from last week’s announcement that Robbie Brady has signed a two-year deal with PNE, the young Scotland international becomes North End’s first new arrival of the summer.
With the team set to return to pre-season training the week commencing 26th June, the manager is hoping to add to his squad before then.
Ryan added: “I’m pleased to get this one done early. We’ve obviously got Robbie resigned which is a bonus, and now we’re obviously looking to further advance our squad.
“There will hopefully be more signings on their way in the next few weeks.
“We’re on with things. It just now means that the right side is sorted and we can now move on to other positions as and when needed.”
