Bambo Diaby was delighted with the team spirit that Preston North End showed to claim a 2-1 win over Rotherham United away from home.
The Lilywhites extended their unbeaten run to seven games, as the encounter at the AESSEAL New York Stadium required a goal each from Tom Cannon and Ched Evans to take all three points.
In what was a solid defensive display, after coming back from conceding an equaliser against the run of play, the centre back believes that every game has further built on the winning mentality in the team.
Bambo said: “I think the team were excellent in the way we do our job.
“We follow the gameplan from the manager, and I think that we are doing that in the last few weeks – that’s why we are winning points.
“In my mind it’s because I believe in myself and I believe in my teammates, so when I see everyone is running, everyone is focused, everyone is talking and helping each other – we are just playing like a team.”
Bambo was also keen to highlight the importance of North End’s attacking options, who ensured that the heart of the backline could have the three points to take home for their efforts.
“We have Ched Evans, we have Tom [Cannon], we have Troy [Parrott] – we have very good strikers so that’s the thing, I believe in them,” he said.
“The thing is I do my job at the back, the defenders we do our job, and you do your job at the top.
“Of course, if we can help them score goals, that’s good because it’s for the team, but they are doing an excellent job and that’s why today we got the three points.
“I think the confidence is high of course, because when you have a positive result every time or every game, that helps you with confidence to go to the next one.”
Next on the agenda is this Saturday’s trip to Middlesbrough – a game for which Bambo is raring to go and get stuck into prior to the international break, especially with it being Gentry Day.
“Last year was in Barnsley, which was a very special game for me, and this year is Middlesbrough,” he said.
“It’s a very hard game as well because it’s a very good club – it’s in the top three – so I like to play with the best players.
“It’s a very good game to get the three points for the supporters and it’s a special day for Preston – so we can do it.”
