Gaffer Delighted With Home Win Over Coventry City

4 November 2023

Ryan Lowe was delighted with his side’s performance in the 3-2 victory at home to Coventry City.

North End fell a goal behind just after the half-hour mark, but quickfire strikes from Duane Holmes and Alan Browne turned the game on its head and sent the hosts into the break with a deserved lead.

Milutin Osmajić then extended his side’s advantage in the second half and PNE made it through the final stages to seal a first victory in eight, despite conceding another goal to Haji Wright.

Ryan said: “I’m delighted with the three points and delighted with the performance.

“To go a goal down, with a decision again which looking at it it was offside, but we can’t keep going on about the decisions we’re not getting.

“We’ve just got to make sure we do right by what we’re doing and that’s certainly what the lads did.

“They had to take a breath and go, ‘Okay it’s not gone for us, let’s go again.’

“Then to go bang, bang and get two goals was massively pleasing. Overall pleased with the performance because it was well worthy of a win.

“Three points is massive for us because we’ve come off the back of draws and losses, we wanted to try and get that next win, and that’s certainly what we’ve got so I’m pleased.”

It was a momentous victory, too, for North End, with it being the club’s 2,000th league win in history.

It comes off the back of a seven-match run without a win, and ahead of a Lancashire derby next Friday against Blackburn Rovers.

Ryan added: “We’ve had the confidence but to get that win gives you a little bit more confidence knowing you’re off the back of a good performance and a good win.

“We’ll recover the lads, they’ll have a day off tomorrow and then we’ll be in all week.

“We’ll recover them, we’ll get the gameplan right and then they’ll hopefully go and execute it.

“We’re up against another good team; in the Championship they’re all good teams.

“It’s a local derby. We’ve sold the bottom tier out, can we get the top tier done as well?

“Let’s go and have a right good go in a local derby.”
