International Preview: November 2023

15 November 2023

Four Preston North End players are away on international duty this week, with some big games on the cards.

Skipper Alan Browne, fresh from his superb goal at Ewood Park, will head to Amsterdam this weekend as Republic of Ireland round off their EURO qualification campaign against the Netherlands.

Kicking off at 7.45pm on Saturday 18th November, Ireland go into the game knowing automatic qualification is no longer possible, however they can still get to next summer’s tournament via the Nations League.

Browney and his teammates will then return home to Dublin for a friendly against New Zealand on Tuesday 21st November (7.45pm).

Elsewhere, Milutin Osmajić will hope to help Montenegro end their own group well, especially given that it’s still possible for them to progress automatically to the finals in Germany.

They’ll require two wins from two, though, and they also need results elsewhere to go their way.

Montenegro will host Lithuania at 7.45pm on Thursday 16th November, before then heading to Hungary to take on the league leaders for a 2pm kick-off on Sunday 19th November.

Liam Millar is away with Canada once again and he’ll be involved in a double-header against Jamaica, which could see them seal a place in the Copa America.

Canada face the Reggae Boyz in a two-legged CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final, and the winner will secure a spot in next summer’s Copa America in the US, while also progressing to the March 20224 Nations League finals.

The first of those fixtures will take place in Kingston, Jamaica at 12am (UK time) on Saturday 18th November, before the return leg in Toronto, Canada on Wednesday 22nd November (12.30am UK time).

Meanwhile, Kian Best has joined up with the England U19 squad for the first time, after being recognised for his recent performances with North End.

Having previously been on standby for the Young Lions, Besty will be hoping to make his bow for his country in one of the three upcoming fixtures.

Taking place at Marbella Football Centre, England will take on Romania at 5pm on Wednesday 15th November, before facing Japan on Saturday 18th November (1pm).

England U19s will then round off the break against Mexico with a 5pm kick-off on Tuesday 21st November.

Good luck, lads!
