Deepdale To Host Session For Prostate Cancer Screening

14 October 2023

A free public PSA testing session will be held at Deepdale on Saturday 18th November, led by local Prostate Cancer Support Group, the Walnut Group.

Held in the Guild Lounge between 10am and 3pm, the event will be aimed primarily at men over 45, although those aged over 40 who have a close family history of the disease are also invited to attend.

Numbers will be strictly limited on the day and prior online registration, which is now open, is essential as there will be no walk-ins available on the day.

Chairman of the Walnut Group, Colin Piddington, said: “Prior to lockdown, we were able to arrange a number of sessions in which over 1,000 men were tested – more than 100 of whom were referred back to their GPs for further examination.

“Since then, several high profile personalities have announced that they have been diagnosed with prostate cancer which has increased the profile of the disease which claims more than 12,000 lives every year.

“With early diagnosis, the chances of surviving are considerably increased, which is why these testings are so important to us.

“We are very grateful to Preston North End Football Club, a local business consortium led by Mark Thistlethwaite, Steven Hewitt in memory of his late father, David, and our other supporters, without whom we would not have been able to organise the event.”

When registering, after submitting your personal details, you should then enter Preston to find the event. The completed booking form, which contains a unique QR code, must be printed off and brought to the testing event on the dat.

If you have any queries about the session, please contact George on 07743 825818 or Godfrey on 01772 640841.
