International Preview: October 2023

11 October 2023

As we head into the second international break of the season, three Preston North End players will be away with their country during October.

Alan Browne, Liam Millar and Milutin Osmajić are all in contention to feature on the world stage, however Ali McCann will no longer join up with Northern Ireland due to a calf injury.

Skipper Browne has two UEFA EURO 2024 qualifiers on the cards with Republic of Ireland, as they look to improve on their total of three points from five matches.

First up is a home tie at the Aviva Stadium against Greece on Friday 13th October, with kick-off at 7.45pm, before Stephen Kenny’s men will then face Gibraltar in Portugal at the same time on Monday 16th October.

Browne started both of Republic of Ireland’s qualifiers during September against France and the Netherlands, operating at right wing back and in midfield respectively.

North End’s record buy Osmajić also has a qualifier for next year’s EUROs coming up, but Montenegro will firstly host Lebanon at 5pm on Thursday 12th October in a friendly.

Then comes a short trip to take on Serbia on Tuesday 17th October at 7.45pm in a crucial qualifier, with Serbia currently second in the group and Montenegro third.

The North End striker last featured for his country in June and has 17 caps in total.

Finally, it’s just the one game for Canadian winger Millar to look forward to during the break.

Liam and his teammates are set to take on Japan in Niigata in an international friendly on Friday 13th October, with the match getting underway at 11.35am (UK time).

Liam’s previous appearance for Canada came in a Gold Cup defeat to the USA in July.

Good luck on international duty, lads!
