Mads Felt PNE Deserved More Against Millwall

21 October 2023

Mads Frøkjær felt Preston North End could have killed the game early on in the 1-1 draw against Millwall, following his early opener.

Even before the Dane scored, Duane Holmes had an opportunity inside the opening minute, which he sent just inches wide, and the US international was then denied by Bartosz Białkowski after Mads’ third-minute goal.

PNE were the side on top, but the visiting Lions drew level on the half-hour mark through Zian Flemming and the latter stages of the opening period saw the visitors come into the game.

Mads said: “I feel like we played to [deserve] more than one point to be fair, but I think in the end we didn’t create enough big chances.

“We could probably have killed the game early on if we’d have scored to make it 2-0 before their goal.

“It’s a bit annoying right now but I feel like we played well, quite aggressive, played high up the pitch and could have had some more chances with a bit more quality.”

Gaffer Gives Reaction To Millwall Draw

Mads’ strike from the edge of the area was his third goal since joining North End in the summer and his second in as many matches.

It came from a marauding run forward from defender Jordan Storey who found Will Keane in the area, and he in turn laid it at the feet of North End’s No.10.

Mads joked: “I don’t think Keano meant to lay it off to me but he should have!

“I was happy he didn’t try to turn around and shoot with his left, and then it’s just a pass into the goal.

“I’m always happy when I can help the team with a goal or an assist.

“Three minutes in I thought it would be a crazy good day but in the end it was only one goal and one point so not the best day, but we’ll take it and move forward.”

The draw against Millwall was the first game back after the international break, which probably came at a good time for Ryan Lowe’s side who had a difficult week of three defeats.

Mads was of the opinion they could have taken three points against the London side at Deepdale, but nevertheless was pleased to halt the run of losses.

He said: “It’s one of those games where we look at each other and it’s like, ‘We should have won’.

“This is one of them games we should have won, but it is what it is.

“We’re happy to get one point and get back on track after a tough week before the international break, and hopefully we’ll get more points on Wednesday.”
