Gaffer Says Millwall Draw Was A Fair Result

27 January 2024

Ryan Lowe felt a point against Millwall was a fair result, although his side could have nicked all three right at the death.

Preston North End fell behind just five minutes in as Zian Flemming headed beyond Freddie Woodman, but Brad Potts levelled in the 33rd minute, and from that point until half-time it was all PNE.

Another goal didn’t come, though, and North End had to weather a Millwall storm in the second period, before late chances fell to the likes of Milutin Osmajić and goalscorer Potts.

On his side’s performance, Ryan said: “I thought they were excellent. We conceded an early goal and we can’t keep doing that. We can’t keep having a mountain to climb.

“When that ball goes back we’ve get to get up and get out. We’ll have a look back on Monday, but I thought the attitude and application from there on in was excellent.

“We were on the front foot. We probably could have scored again just before half-time and then coming out second half it was a bit end to end.

“We had another couple of good moments through Keano (Will Keane), Milly and Pottsy towards the end.

Match Report: Millwall 1 PNE 1

“I’m not complaining. It’s a good point coming to Millwall. Historically it’s not been great here. They’re on the ascendency and trying to play a different way of football which we’ve seen.

“We nicked the ball off them numerous times. We just didn’t have that final bit of quality towards the end to go and get the three points. I thought the lads were fantastic in everything they did.”

The goal which earned the point on the road was Potts’ second of the season, following his strike from a similar position at home to Southampton in October.

It was a defence-splitting pass at The Den from Mads Frøkjær which sent the right wing-back through on goal and he slotted past Matija Šarkić.

Ryan said: “We knew from one side to the other, we knew we’d suck them out and how they’d play.

“They play a bit of a box in there and we knew there’d be gaps opening. It’s a fantastically weighted pass.

“That’s what Mads gives you. I said to him he needs to start bringing goals and assists to his game and that’s what he’s done, and it’s a fantastic finish from Pottsy.”

Despite it being North End’s fourth away trip of the month and the second journey to the capital, around 850 fans were there to support the side in yellow.

“Fantastic,” commented Ryan. “They work hard and Christmas has just gone. People are probably struggling for money, we know that and we appreciate that.

“It doesn’t go unnoticed; they know that. The lads stay behind and show their appreciation. It’s fantastic.

“Keep supporting the boys, keep doing what you’re doing, and keep singing. They kept trying to rally them on.

“Millwall have got a buzz and they’re loud and we were trying to silence them.

“Listen, thanks very much because it doesn’t go unnoticed and we appreciate your support, especially in the month of January.”
