Match Report: Blackpool 3 PNE Reserves 0

26 March 2024

Preston North End reserves were beaten 3-0 by Blackpool in the Central League on Tuesday.

Layton Campbell got his side going in the 25th minute and Luke Mariette made it two before the break.

North End started to create a few more chances in the second half through the likes of Felipe Rodriguez-Gentile and Charlie Goldsmith, but Terry Bondo’s third ensured the Tangerines took the points.

The visitors to Springfields, who were officially the home team, had a chance to open the scoring within the opening 60 seconds, but Zak Emmerson headed wide from close range.

Blackpool did break the deadlock, though, in the 25th minute as Jake Daniels’ low cross made its way through a number of bodies to find Campbell at the back post, who slammed into the roof of the net.

Tommy Davis soon came up with two brilliant saves, firstly tipping Dannen Francis’ deflected effort onto the bar, before then denying Emmerson with a strong stop.

There was nothing the ‘keeper could do, though, when Mariette danced through the defence and sent a powerful shot into the far corner to make it two.

Blackpool struck the woodwork again in the final minute of the half through Campbell, while North End’s first effort of the match came in stoppage-time as Troy Tarry fired just over.

Into the second half and it was the visitors again creating chances as Campbell headed wide and Emmerson missed a presentable opportunity from close range.

North End looked to be growing into the half and Rodriguez-Gentile had a shot deflected wide before Ayden Garrigan had a strong effort saved by Harvey Bardsley.

The Seasiders shut down any suggestions of a comeback, though, in the 70th minute when Bondo tapped home a low cross on the end of a quick counter.

PNE had their best chance of the game in the 77th minute when Theo Carroll slotted Goldsmith through on goal, but his effort was touched wide by the ‘keeper.

PNE line-up: Davis; Blake, McGhee, Brindle; Tarry (Critchley, 76), Wilson (Stringfellow, 72), Kamara, Garrigan; Carroll (T.Mawene, 79); Goldsmith, Rodriguez-Gentile (Gairns, 76). Sub not used: Stowell.
