Katie is a college student from Preston who graduated from a week-long NCS wave with PNECET last year.

NCS is an opportunity for young people aged 15 to 17 to enjoy new experiences with focuses on an adventure phase, which includes activities such archery and rock climbing, followed by a discovery phase which sees students experience independent living.

Also part of NCS are a social action phase and a graduation phase to conclude the programme which is backed by the government.

The social action phase in particular focuses on young people making a difference in the local community, just as Katie did by volunteering her time to help with the PNECET Helping Hampers today.

Katie said: “I heard about this [PNECET Helping Hampers] because I’ve taken part in NCS.

“My family are quite involved with Preston [North End], follow them on Facebook, and saw that the Community and Education Trust are doing this really good scheme making hampers for vulnerable people.

“Everyone should come together in times of need and work together as a team. As a young person, I’ve got lots of time on my hands and if I can volunteer my services, I will.

“If I can help others, put a smile on their face and get them through this hardship, then obviously it makes me feel good as well!”

Please donate to the PNECET Helping Hampers campaign with a donation of any size, if you can, by visiting our JustGiving page. You can also continue to nominate someone for a hamper by emailing community@pne.com.
