PNECET Offering Food Provision Service To Support Vulnerable Children Through Half-Term

23 October 2020

Preston North End Community and Education Trust will be offering a food collection service for vulnerable children and families during October half-term to support those most in need.

Families in need will be able to collect meals from the community offices at Deepdale between 11.30am and 2pm from Monday 26th October until Friday 30th October.

Those who are most in need are invited to simply turn up at the community offices between the designated times, or email community@pne.com to make their request for the number of meals required. Please note that meals will be limited to one meal per child per day.

The Trust will be working in partnership with Fox’s Sandwich Deli in Blackburn to offer the food provision service, which will aim to support children who usually receive a free school meal during school term-times, or indeed any other children or families requesting support.

Head of Community Tom Drake said: “We offered our Happy Holiday Club food provision service for vulnerable children throughout the summer holidays and we are determined to provide as much support as possible once again for those in need during October half-term.

“We understand that for many families whose children receive free meals during term-time, the half-term periods can be especially difficult. We believe that no child should have to go without food, particularly during this challenging COVID-19 pandemic with the additional financial hardship that has caused.

“Preston North End is a proud community club and it is during these difficult times that we must come together to support those in need in and around Preston.

“No one should feel ashamed to have to go without food and I would urge any family to come forward if they feel they could benefit from our support, in the assurance that no judgement will be cast.”

Schools can also request support from the Trust to provide meals for their most vulnerable pupils during half-term.

To get in touch regarding food provision during half-term, whether it is to make a request for yourself or a family member or to reach out on behalf of your school, please contact community@pne.com for additional information.
