Walking Football Sessions To Resume In November

29 October 2020

One of Preston North End Community and Education Trust’s weekly walking football sessions will be running again from Friday 6th November.

* Unfortunately our walking football sessions are now not going ahead due to new lockdown measures. We will provide an update when they are set to start again in due course.

Walking football has been suspended since March because of the Coronavirus pandemic but is now set for a return while adhering to all government guidelines.

The newly reformed walking football session will take place every Friday from 11am until 12 noon at the PNE Community Training Centre at PlayFootball, Ingol (PR2 3TX), with both men and women over the age of 50 welcome to join at the usual cost of £3 per session.

The social hour which had previously followed the Friday walking football session will not take place in its usual format due to restrictions on public gatherings in indoor settings. However, the Cafe2U mobile refreshments unit, operated by walking footballer Anne-Marie Craven, will be on site outdoors, for participants to access refreshments after the session.

Sessions are now restricted to 34 participants, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all staff members and participants. Places must be reserved by completing our online booking form, which you can visit here [link], and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Bookings can be made from 9am on a Monday until 2.30pm on a Thursday on the week of the session you are wishing to attend. Participants will be split into teams before arriving at the session and handed bibs according to their allocated teams before the session starts.

Participants will have their temperature checked and sanitise on arrival at the PNE Community Training Centre, with a one-way system in place for players to follow when making their way to and from the pitches. Anyone showing Covid-19 symptoms during the session will be asked to leave and advised to follow government guidelines.

All personal belongings, including items which might normally be swapped between players during games such as goalkeeper gloves, must not be shared with participants from outside your own household or social bubble.

In place of the traditional fair play handshakes and high-fives that players have typically observed at the end of a match or session, we will now be asking participants to observe a fair play clap, to reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission while adhering to two-metre social distancing measures.

Payment on the day will be available but cash payments will not be accepted and we ask that contactless payment is made where possible to reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission.
