PNE Players In Attendance For Unveiling Of Morrisons Riversway Renovations

23 September 2021

Tom Barkhuizen, Ryan Ledson, Joe Rafferty and Sepp van den Berg visited the newly renovated Morrisons Riversway in Preston this week to mark the official opening of a number of exciting changes to the store.

Preston North End Community and Education Trust [PNECET] has worked alongside Morrisons on a number of initiatives during the pandemic, receiving support to deliver various projects which have provided essential supplies for those most in need.

The supermarket has provided support for projects that have ranged from reaching elderly members of the community shielding amid the pandemic, to vulnerable children and families who ordinarily access free school meals.

The players were in attendance for the opening to mark PNECET’s continued partnership with Morrisons Riversway, cutting the ribbon on the new entrance to the store and signing footballs for use by the store for community causes.

The multi-million pound development at Preston Dock features a new café, brew bar, redesigned customer friendly layout, and a newly designed glass front of the store. A new community room has also been opened, providing a space that can be used for free by local community groups and organisations to support community projects.

Morrisons Riversway Community Champion Sue Armstrong has been working with a number of organisations to support the local community during the pandemic and has been a key figure in forging a positive relationship with PNECET.

She said: “It’s good to have it done, we’ve been here for 30 years and we’ve never had anything like this big opening.

“To have the North End players come down and support us, it’s been great, and to see the lads turn up and have the photos taken. It’d be great to maintain that contact throughout the rest of the year to support each other.”

The Morrisons Riversway store team added: “It’s fantastic to be able to welcome our customers into our new-look Preston store and put smiles on their faces with random acts of kindness.

“We had tasters of our fantastic market street products available and customers also took part in checkout bingo and a few lucky customers won a prize. We just want to make good things happen’ for our customers and community.”
