Players Visit Partner Schools Under PNECET Primary Stars Programme

20 April 2022

Greg Cunningham, Ben Whiteman, Liam Lindsay and Ali McCann spent time visiting partner primary schools of Preston North End Community and Education Trust [PNECET] last month as part of its Premier League Primary Stars programme.

Cunningham and Whiteman headed to Queen's Drive Primary School, while Lindsay and McCann were guests at Kennington Primary School, both of which are partner schools of PNECET through the Primary Stars programme, which maximises the power and appeal of Preston North End and sport as a whole to inspire pupils with cross-curricular learning opportunities.

As part of the Primary Stars programme, PNECET staff deliver curriculum focused learning within both schools every week, but the presence of our first team players made some of their recent lessons all the more special.

Both sets of players participated in a PE lesson before going onto answer questions from the respective sets of schools' pupils about a whole host of topics.

Queen’s Drive Head Teacher Mr Aspinall, said: “We had a great afternoon with both Ben and Greg. They’ve been working with our Year 2 pupils as part of their PE programme, they’ve managed to go into our school MUGA area and play football with the children, which the children have absolutely loved, some passing, dribbling and shooting around.

“We then came inside for a question and answer session, which went really well. There were some interesting questions from the children and Greg and Ben answered them well. The children have gone away feeling really passionate about Preston North End with the impact that the players can have on their lives.

Kennington Head Teacher Mr Pritchard added: “The children always get a real buzz when they know the players are coming in. You can see the excitement on the children’s faces and the activities that they were doing that they found it really good.

“You could see from the questions that the children generated in the question and answer session that the children were really enthusiastic and it did make them think about what they could achieve in sport themselves going forward in the future.”
