PNE Women Hosting Blackpool Ladies On Wednesday Night

22 August 2022

Preston North End Women’s FC are hosting Blackpool FC Girls and Ladies in their second league match of the season on Wednesday night and fans can show their support free of charge!

The game will kick-off at 6.45pm on Wednesday 24th August at UCLan Sports Arena (Tom Benson Way, PR2 1SG) and will be played on pitch two, which is on the right-hand side when entering the complex.

PNE began their league campaign with a 2-2 draw against Accrington Stanley on Sunday at Padiham FC’s Ruby Civil Arena while Blackpool were 5-1 winners over Morecambe.

The Trust also brought together the open-age and junior age teams three years ago to ensure that junior players have a pathway to open-age football.

Ahead of facing Blackpool, women’s team co-manager David Rawcliffe said: “Any game you play against Blackpool, with it being a local derby, it’s one you look forward to.

We’ve just got to make sure that we take the learning from the weekend, we apply ourselves and play better than we did. Blackpool are a strong side, they were last season, and they’ve got off to a great start. We have to be at our best to compete with them.

“We are confident in our own ability and that when we play well we are a match for any side. Going into that game, yes, we’ll look forward to it and relish it, and at the end of the day, the girls have to go out there and perform to their best and we’ll be confident we can get a result. We’re looking forward to the game.”

All women’s team home games are played at UCLan Sports Arena and are free to attend, with spectators welcomed. Entry requirements at away fixtures are dictated by the host club.
