PNECET Partner With Show Racism The Red Card For Educational Workshops

24 October 2022

Preston North End Community and Education Trust has partnered with Show Racism the Red Card to deliver educational anti-racism workshops in primary schools across Preston.

The workshops will be delivered as part of the Premier League Primary Stars programme, which inspires primary school children with cross-curricular learning in their PE lessons by utilising the power and appeal of Preston North End.

The workshops will aim to provide children with a better understanding of various forms of racism and discrimination and how they can be tackled within society.

Children will take part in various activities as part of the workshops, which comprise both morning and afternoon classroom sessions across one day of delivery.

The Trust is also working alongside Preston City Council and Preston and the Western Lancashire Racial Equality and Diversity Council to deliver the workshops, which are available for free for all Preston primary schools.

Schools Provision Coordinator Olivia Parkinson said: “We’re pleased to be working alongside Show Racism the Red Card to educate children about racism in society.

“Providing pupils with an improved understanding of racism and discrimination is an incredibly important subject area. To reach children at an early age can help to shape their views and knowledge of appropriate terminology for years to come.

“We aim to positively impact people from all walks of life through our provision, and our partnership with Show Racism the Red Card will be truly reflective of that, as we educate children about people of all faiths and backgrounds.”

Head of Education Liam Sealey added: “Our partnership with Show Racism the Red Card is a continuation of much of the Trust’s working around promoting equality, diversity and inclusion across our provision over recent years.

“Through our Premier League Primary Stars programme, we have already been delivering our Together As One anti-racism intervention for the past two years, reaching children at an early age to help them to understand attitudes around racism in our society and the use of appropriate society.

“We have also delivered vastly successful PR1-Community projects for the past two years to engage with our local Muslim community during Ramadan. We look forward to continuing our work with ethnically diverse communities and educating young people about changing attitudes towards racism in society.”

North West Manager for Show Racism the Red Card Molly-May Smith said: “Show Racism the Red Card are delighted to be working with the Preston North End Community and Education Trust to deliver anti-racist education to young people and teachers across the local area.

“Our partnerships with football clubs are essential in challenging racism in the game, and wider society. PNE have already demonstrated an incredible commitment to anti-racism and we look forward to co-delivering this important work with the coaches at PNECET.”
