As part of our ‘Invincibles’ project, and in collaboration with Preston North End Football Club and the Preston Historical Society, we are revealing a blue plaque this Friday 29th March to commemorate the career of Arthur Wharton.
Arthur played for PNE during the ‘Invincibles’ era and as well as being the first black professional he also set a world record for the 100 yard dash, clocking 10 seconds in 1886.
The event will start at 10am and take place on the morning before our home match against Rotherham United on Good Friday, next to the Dick, Kerr Ladies memorial.
This will be followed by a special ticketed presentation in the Greats’ Room by Shaun Campbell of the Arthur Wharton Foundation. Shaun will talk about Arthur's incredible career and the birth of the Foundation. The presentation is set to finish at 12:15pm, at which time everyone will vacate the stadium. However, The Gentry Bar will be open at this time so people can stay in there.

Please note - this ticket gives access to the presentation by Shaun Campbell which will follow the reveal. The reveal, which will take place outside next to the Dick, Kerr Ladies memorial at 10am and, as previously mentioned, is open to all members of the public.

10:00am: Blue plaque reveal and speeches.
10:40am approx: Those with tickets move to the Greats' Room for Shaun Campbell's presentation (entrance via the Sir Tom Finney Stand reception). Tea, coffee and finger food available on arrival.
11:15am: Special presentation by Shaun Campbell of the Arthur Wharton Foundation.
12:15pm: End of event. All people must leave the stadium at this time.
