Women And Girls Football

Preston North End is committed to the aims of The Football Association and Premier League Girls Football by aiming to provide opportunities for 11-year-old girls and older to take part in the sport in a local community setting, through the Premier League Girls Football programme.

The programme mainly targets age groups from 14-years-old through to open age groups, consisting of women over the age of 16.

Alongside almost 90 professional clubs, the Community and Education Trust deliver a wide variety of sessions aimed at different audiences under the PL Girls Football programme.

The Inclusion team at Preston North End delivers free football sessions in schools and colleges in the area to help achieve the targets of the programme. They also provide links to local football teams by mentoring their coaches, while directing players towards various clubs that align with their needs and abilities.

The PL Girls Football programme has two main objectives:

  • To increase the number of women and girls playing football on a regular basis.
  • To increase the opportunities for women and girls to develop skills and confidence and progress within the pathway as a player, coach or official.

The programme achieves this by providing a fun and informal environment, allowing participants to progress at their own pace and make friends at the same time.

The programme culminates in an annual event held prior to the Women’s FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium providing young people the opportunity to represent their club and meet new people.
