Preston North End signed Álvaro Fernández on a season-long loan from Manchester United in July 2022.

The highly-rated left wing back, who joined United from Real Madrid in 2020, signed a new deal at Old Trafford before completing his move to Deepdale.

After making appearances off the bench in the opening two league games of the 2022/23 season, Álvaro shone in his first start for the club in a Carabao Cup victory against Huddersfield Town, claiming two assists before being forced off through injury at half-time.

The Spain U19 international was out for the best part of a month with that ankle injury, but again made his ability clear on his return to action.

Fernández enjoyed a successful 2021/22 campaign, being named as United's U23 Player of the Year, and he was also named as a substitute in their final four games of the Premier League season.
