Greg Cunningham returned to Deepdale in January 2021, three years on from his last appearance for the club.

It was initially a loan until the end of the season but that deal was soon made permanent until the summer of 2023 following his impressive performances in the 11 games he played - one of which included a great goal away at Blackburn Rovers.

In August 2022, Greg made his 150th appearance for the club, coming on to play on the left of a back three, which is the position he’s become accustomed to under Ryan Lowe.

In his first spell with the side, though, he was very much a left back, and what an integral part he played. The Irishman took the armband on occasion and helped the club push for a Play-Off spot in his final season before moving on to Premier League side Cardiff City, where he made 14 appearances in an injury-disrupted few years.

Prior to his first move to PR1, Cunningham had been a top performer in League One with Bristol City. He joined the Robins from Manchester City, where he had come through the Academy after moving over from Ireland.

Greg has represented the Republic of Ireland four times, with his last cap coming in 2013, being part of a defence tasked with keeping Robert Lewandowski quiet.
