After almost a decade in the Lilywhites’ academy, Josh Earl signed on professional terms in April 2017 following an impressive season in the second year of his scholarship.

Earl mainly plays as a left-sided midfielder or left-back but also had a stint as a lone striker last season. He then spent one month with Lancaster City on a work experience deal from March to April, providing him with the invaluable experience of senior football in preparation for this next challenge with North End’s first team set-up.

The versatile midfielder, from Liverpool, has been with PNE since the age of nine and played a key role in the youth team’s run to last season’s FA Youth Cup quarter-finals – the furthest any PNE side had managed since 1960 – scoring twice on route to the last eight.

Earl has already been involved in a number of first team training sessions since first signing as a scholar in 2015.
