Emil Riis joined North End in the summer of 2020 from Danish Superliga side Randers FC.
North End paid a significant undisclosed fee for the highly-rated forward who had a spell in England as a youth team player for Derby County before he returned to his native country.
Emil made a really bright start to life at Deepdale in his full debut in an away victory over QPR, and he went on to score three times in 39 games in all competitions in his first season at the club.
Things only got better from that point as, firstly under Frankie McAvoy, the Dane hit a fantastic run of form in front of goal – which extended to when Ryan Lowe took over as well – and the striker ended the season with 21 goals in all competitions.
Some of those were real beauties, too, with an outrageous volley against Bristol City and a thunderous strike against Coventry City just a couple from an impressive showreel.
His form for PNE resulted in a call-up to the senior Denmark squad in November 2021, and he was named as a substitute for their World Cup qualifier against Scotland.
Emil had started the 2022/23 campaign with five goals to his name, but he suffered an ACL injury in the opening game of 2023, against Stoke City, which is set to keep him sidelined for a long period of time.
