Chris Maxwell became the first signing of the summer for North End in May 2016, joining North End from Fleetwood Town.

The Welshman made over 100 appearances in his last two seasons with the Cod Army, and impressed the Highbury faithful, leading to the Welshman picking up the club’s player of the year award for the 2014/15 season.

Maxwell was also nominated for the 2015 North West Football Awards’ League One player of the year, which was eventually won by Preston North End defender Paul Huntington.

The St Asaph-born stopper began his career at Wrexham, breaking through the youth ranks to go on to make his professional debut at the age of 18, before his move to Fleetwood four years later.

Maxwell has represented Wales at youth level from U17s through to U23s, and has been called up to the senior squad on a number of occassions but has yet to make his senior debut.

The goalkeeper spent the second half of the 2018/19 season on loan at Charlton Athletic, and will spend the 2019/20 campaign with Scottish Premiership side Hibernian after joining them on a season long loan in July.
