PNE 3 Yeovil Town 1

North End came from behind at the interval to defeat Yeovil Town 3-2 in a thrilling second half at Deepdale.

A first league strike from Jeffrey Monakana and a close range header from Chris Beardsley were added to by an own goal Dan Burn, which gave the Lilywhites the win, having gone behind to Gavin Williams' early first half penalty. A late goal from Burn - scoring at both ends - meant a few bitten fingernails, but North End held on for three valuable home points.

Williams fired home in the sixth minute from the spot, but after the break Monakana struck before the hour mark, before Chris Beardsley converted from close range from Monakana's cross and then Dan Burn put past Marek Stech, before the same man's late consolation, with the Glovers also having Edward Upson sent off for two yellow card offences with 15 minutes to go.

Manager Graham Westley restored Keith Keane and Chris Beardsley to the starting line-up after injury and also handed the goalkeeping jersey to Thorsten Stuckmann, who was soon in the thick of the action.

The visitors got off to a flying start when they were awarded a penalty on five minutes, Stuckmann adjudged to have brought down Gozie Ugwu on the left edge of the box and Gavin Williams spot kick was high into the top right hand corner, giving the German no chance.

It was a game of few chances. Mousinho’s 14th minute header easily claimed by Stech from Monakana’s right wing cross and then Bailey Wright slashed a left foot shot wide of the post after Stech had flapped at Byrom’s outswinging corner.

Laird then saw a shot blocked and the Glovers wall got in the way of a free kick from the left back after Joel Byrom had been upended right on the edge. Will Hayhurst had fired home in the aftermath, but referee, Mark Brown, called the play back.

After the break North End came out of the blocks like a team wanting to impress and on 57 minutes they were level as Will Hayhurst on the left carved out an opening with a great ball across the six yard box that seemed to have eluded everyone but found the onrushing Jeffrey Monakana who cut inside and smashed off a Yeovil defender into the bottom left hand corner for his first league goal.

North End were now rampant and Beavon forced Stech to make a unbelievable save as he blasted goalwards following a lung-busting run by Scott Laird from his own half.

The crowd were now in the game and so was Chris Beardsley, the frontman heading home on 64 minutes from close range after a superb ball in from the right by the scorer of the equaliser, Jeffrey Monakana, with full back Luke Ayling also in the vicinity as the forward claimed the goal.

Edward Upson received a red card for the visitors after bringing down Jeffrey Monakana on the edge of the box after a blistering run had taken him past four defenders, before the midfielder almost cut him in half, giving the referee no choice.

And North End doubled their lead with what was definitely an own goal. Six minutes were left on the clock and defender Dan Burn poked the ball home at close range after great work by firstly Stuart Beavon and then Jack King who drilled the ball back from the byline forcing the goal.

But the visitors replied almost immediately as the same debutant Daniel Burn, made it a goal at both ends, finishing off  a simple set piece for the visitors at the back post in front of their fans to give them hope.

It then took a goalline clearance from Bailey Wright in the final minute to keep the Lilywhites ahead, but it could have been more for North End with late breakaways and they deservedly held on for the three points.
