Robinson Praises DJ Quality

10 November 2018

Callum Robinson gave plenty of the plaudits to teammate and friend Daniel Johnson post-match after the No. 11 assisted Robinson for the only goal of the game.

Robinson’s first half goal proved the difference between the two sides at Ashton Gate as North End recorded a 1-0 victory over Bristol City.

North End’s No. 7 is no stranger to DJ’s quality having risen through the ranks with each other at Aston Villa before both made the switch to North End, and with Johnson playing further up the pitch this afternoon, Robinson was full of praise for him.

To iFollowPNE after the game, Robinson said: “DJ has a lot of quality and we seen that further up the pitch today. He can be more productive in that ten position and we’ve got a lot of pace up there which you seen with the goal.

“He’s has got that awareness and he’s a talented footballer - I’ve played with him for a long time and it’s what I expect but he’s a very good passer of the ball. He’s got himself another assist today and set me up for another goal so he’s been a good friend to me!”

North End shown characteristics today which made them so difficult to beat last season, and Robinson is confident there’s more to come from this side after making it seven unbeaten with this afternoon's win.

“That’s what we were about last year” said Robinson who made it appearance number 150 for North End today. "It was about being solid and catching teams on the break and it’s nice that Seani Maguire's back as well and you can see he’s getting back to his best.

“I really enjoyed today" he added. "The lads dug in, it was a tough one as they’ve got some really good players but the lads dug in and got the result we wanted. I’m happy with the goal but It’s a team performance that got us the three points.”

Whilst North End now have two weeks to get ready for Derby Day at home to Blackburn Rovers, Robinson will meet with the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of their double header against Northern Ireland and Denmark, and Robinson admits there's lots to look forward to.

Robinson continued: “There’s no stopping! I’ve got the game on Thursday night with Ireland and it will be great to meet up with them tomorrow and we’ve got the game on Tuesday against Denmark.

"Then i'll be back with the boys and ready for the big game against Blackburn on the Saturday and that will obviously be rocking and that’s what you want to do as a footballer - you want to be involved in the big games and I’m really enjoying it!
