Mfuni Confident Of Cup Glory

17 March 2022

After a 2-1 victory in the sectional semi-final of the Youth Alliance Cup against Burton Albion, Teddy Mfuni believes the team “can go all the way and win it”.

North End emerged 2-1 victors thanks to second-half goals from Mfuni and Aaron Bennett which has set up a sectional final against Bolton Wanderers.

The Lilywhites previously knocked out Huddersfield Town to get to this stage and goalscorer Mfuni is confident about the team’s chances.

“I believe we can go all the way and win it,” said Mfuni.

“If the team plays to their strengths and to the standard that they are capable then we will have a really good chance.

“Bolton are known to play pretty defensively so we will have to be patient.

“If we start off strong and finish our chances then once again we will have a great chance.”

Burton Albion proved to be a tough opponent and, even though North End picked up the victory, the central defender felt he and his team-mates side started slowly.

“I thought we played well but it took a while for the team to get going,” stated Mfuni.

“The defence started off slow. I would say as they defence settled into the game, we were able to get forward more and create a lot of chances.”

The second-year scholar added another goal to his tally, heading home from close range to draw his side level early in the second half.

“We go over the set pieces in training, and I’m scoring goals, so they are definitely working.

"It’s just about being in the right place at the right time, and I seem to have that knack at the moment of being in those right places.”

PNEU19 are back in action this Saturday as they take on Bolton Wanderers for a 10.30am kick-off at Springfields in the sectional final of the Youth Alliance Cup.
