International Preview: March 2024

20 March 2024

Four Preston North End players are away with their respective countries this international break.

While most matches being played this March are friendlies, Liam Millar is set to take part in a huge fixture for Canada, as they have one final chance to reach Copa América.

After defeat in the CONCACAF Nations League during the previous international break, Canada now have a crucial Play-Off coming up against Trinidad and Tobago at 8pm (UK time) on Saturday 23rd March in Texas.

The winner of the tie is set to join Argentina, Peru and Chile in Group A of the tournament, and it would be the first time Canada have participated at the CONMEBOL Copa América if they were to progress.

Elsewhere, Ali McCann has been included in the Northern Ireland squad who are looking to follow up their impressive victory over Denmark in November with two more good showings in a friendly double header.

They’ll firstly head to Bucharest to take on Romania at 7.45pm on Friday 22nd March, before facing Scotland at Hampden Park on Tuesday 26th March (7.45pm).

Also with two friendlies on the cards is Robbie Brady and Republic of Ireland, with North End’s No.11 having been called up by the Boys In Green for the first time in a year.

Under the interim care of John O’Shea, Ireland will face Belgium at the Aviva Stadium at 5pm on Saturday 23rd March, and another home fixture against Switzerland will follow at 7.45pm on Tuesday 26th March.

Kian Best has joined up with England U19s for the second time, following his impressive performances in the Marbella Cup last November.

Besty and the Young Lions have two matches coming up in Morocco, taking on Morocco themselves at 9.30pm on Thursday 21st March and the United States at 11am on Sunday 24th March.

Milutin Osmajić was due to join up with Montenegro during the break, but he'll be staying with PNE due to the injury which forced him off early on against Plymouth Argyle last weekend.

Good luck, lads!
