Barkhuizen Ready To Take His Chance

1 January 2017

Having been training with the first team at Springfield for a month and a half, Tom Barkhuizen is now ready to for his next challenge.

The forward, who officially joins Preston North End today, will be eligible to play for the Lilywhites against Burton Albion on Monday. If selected, the 23-year-old is ready to step up and take his chance in the Championship once again.

Speaking of his time at the club so far, the former Morecambe man said: "It's been a long six or seven weeks but I said when I signed that it would be a really important time for me and I think I've used it really well and I've settled in well so I'm ready to go if selected tomorrow.

"It's been really helpful for both me and the club. For the club to get me in early was a big thing. The bounce games that I have played I feel I've done ok in them and I've got used to how the team wants to play because it's been a lot different to how I've been playing recently.

Barkhuizen feels his time with the squad has been beneficial and is prepared to be patient while waiting for his chance to come along.

"I've realised that it is a massive step up and I think I have settled in quite well and I've got better as the weeks have gone on and I'm ready to go.

"I knew when I came here that I wasn't going to go straight into the team, that's not how it works, I'm going to have to work hard and take my chance when I get it.

"I'm a massive team player so it's not just about me, I know it's about everyone else as well and I'm ready whenever I'm selected and hopefully I can do well."
