Architects Of Our Own Downfall Says Grayson

3 October 2015

Manager Simon Grayson admitted mistakes from his side cost them in the end, as they were beaten 3-1 at Hillsborough.

The gaffer believes his side could have at least got a point from the game if it wasn’t for mistakes from his team, something which was hugely disappointing for the PNE boss.

“When you look at the three goals we conceded they were certainly our own mistakes. I think up to 44 minutes, there was nothing in  the game, I thought we were comfortable and it was the quietest I’ve known Hillsborough.

"They didn’t have any real attempts on goal against us, we were very patient, we were disciplined with what we were doing and we thought we would be going in 0-0 at half time.

"Then one basic mistake of letting the ball bounce and not dealing with it, we are suddenly 1-0 down.

"We made another mistake just after half-time and then suddenly it’s a mountain to climb and you can’t give yourself those mountains to climb in this division because you get punished when you make half a mistake, not when you gift opportunities to the opposition.

"So I’m hugely disappointed with the manner that we’ve conceded those goals today.

"After our goal, there was no doubt we were the best team and we looked like we were going to get a draw because we kept going, we put some great balls in, and we missed some good opportunities so we’re hugely disappointed. We have to deal with it and make sure we learn from it every game."
