This Saturday’s The One And Only is all about the strikers! We look to find what makes up the perfect striker and we speak to a whole host of people to get the information.
The main first team player interview is with Joe Garner, who has scored five goals in his last three games against this weekend’s opponents and speaking in the 100-page edition of the matchday programme he feels there is a lot that makes up a top marksman.
“I think there are a lot of different elements that make up a top striker,” he said. “You need a little bit of greed and as well as good movement.
“I have played with a lot of good ones growing up at Blackburn and you need to be selfish and I think that composure in front of goal is a massive thing, but every different striker has different qualities.
“When I was at Blackburn I tried to take a little bit of every striker I worked with: the aggression of Paul Dickov when he used to play; he used to rat around everywhere. I remember watching him against John Terry and he didn’t give him a minute’s rest and I thought he played really well then.
“The qualities of Benni McCarthy and the skills of players like that were other things I tried to learn from, plus the finishing of Roque Santa Cruz.
“If you try and take a little bit out of each of the players you have seen and try and learn from players like that it can only help you improve and become a better player.”
