Simon Grayson Happy With Continuity

26 February 2015

Manager Simon Grayson has named the same 18 for the last two fixtures and is delighted with the consistency his side have shown.

“It will be a good atmosphere; we had a good game there last year and hopefully we can replicate that again this year,” added Grayson.

“We are respectful of them and the fact they have a caretaker manager and players who will be looking to impress him and want to potentially try and get him the job.

“If we go there and perform how we know we can do, then we have a good chance of winning the game, because we have some good players.

“It affects things a little bit. We won’t be aware of the system or the team that Dean will play and pick. He will want to implement his ideas, but it is about what we do.

So how will that affect the Lilywhites’ plans?

The Latics will have a different man making team selection and tactic choices for the clash to the last time the teams met, Dean Holden placed in temporary charge after Lee Johnson’s move to Barnsley.

“The last time we went to Oldham we won the game without those two particular players and hopefully we will go there and win the game with them as well!”

“We have many options available to us and you only have to look at the names of the players left out of the 18 altogether on Tuesday to see how strong the squad is and hopefully that will play a big part between now and the end of the season.

“It was a bit of a blow when we lost them at that time, but we got through the tie and it is now nice to have them back,” he continued.

Going back to Greater Manchester the PNE boss is delighted the two of them are back and firing on all cylinders and is looking for a similar outcome.

North End’s last trip to Oldham ended in a penalty victory in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, however, the game was overshadowed by the fact the Lilywhites got the news that Joe Garner would have a prolonged absence and that Callum Robinson was recalled on the same day.

“However, it is nice to have the opportunity to pick the same team, because players get continuity and the players get to know one another’s strengths and weaknesses.”

“Sometimes you think people might need a rest for the long term good for the rest of the season and sometimes the opposition play a different system that you have to combat.

“If the team’s winning that can determine your team selection,” he said. “With injuries and suspensions these days it is very rare you name the same 18 in succession, but there are exceptions.

With skipper Tom Clarke the only doubt, after having to leave the win over the Saddlers due to a clash of heads, it could be another easy team selection meeting this weekend for the boss and his staff.

Speaking ahead of the trip to Oldham Athletic this weekend the North End gaffer said that with the team on a winning run, they are making it difficult for him to change things.
