International Round-Up: March 2024

27 March 2024

Four North Enders were away representing their country during the March international break, and two claimed historic victories.

Midfielder Ali McCann came off the bench for Northern Ireland in their 1-1 draw in Bucharest against Romania last Friday, and he then played 87 minutes in an impressive 1-0 victory away against Scotland – their first at Hampden Park in 41 years.

Robbie Brady took his cap tally for Republic of Ireland to 62 with two starts for the Boys in Green, under the interim management of John O’Shea.

They firstly held Belgium to a 0-0 draw at the Aviva Stadium and he then played 79 minutes in a 1-0 defeat at home to Switzerland.

Elsewhere, Liam Millar headed to Texas with Canada for a crucial Play-Off fixture against Trinidad and Tobago, with a place in the Copa América up for grabs.

Liam was an unused substitute for his country, as they came out 2-0 winners to progress to this summer’s tournament, which will be the first time they’ve featured in the competition.

Finally, Kian Best featured twice for England U19s following his second call-up to join up with the Young Lions.

The defender started last week against Morocco in a 1-1 draw and then played 45 minutes in a 3-2 defeat to the USA.
