Sodje Signs Short Term Deal

16 August 2012

PNE have completed the deal to sign striker Akpo Sodje on a short term contract...

Due to the fact that Akpo’s last club was Tianjin Teda in China, Preston North End must await an international transfer certificate from the Chinese FA before he can play a competitive fixture.

“We have agreed a short-term deal, he has been training well and he has played well when he has been involved in games and the opportunity to have a further look at him is one I am delighted to have.”

Talking about the move, PNE boss Graham Westley said: “Akpo has been at the Club during pre-season and he has made a positive impact on me.

Sodje, who joins the Club following a brief spell in China playing for Tianjin Teda, scored a brace against AFC Wimbledon and the winning goal against Plymouth Argyle during the Lilywhites’ pre-season schedule.

The 32-year-old completed his necessary paperwork on Thursday morning before linking up with the rest of the squad in preparation for Saturday’s League One opener against Colchester United.

Sodje, who was North End’s top goalscorer during pre-season alongside Joel Byrom with three goals, will be handed the number 12 shirt at Deepdale.

Preston North End have completed the signing of striker Akpo Sodje on an initial short term contract following a successful trial at the Club, subject to international clearance.
