Ben Davies Values Momentum After Third Straight Win

16 December 2017

After North End recorded their third win in as many games against high flyers Sheffield United this afternoon, Ben Davies issued a rallying cry and focused on the importance of continuing the winning feeling.

Davies was a key cog in North End’s victory this afternoon with the Lilywhites keeping a clean sheet against free scoring Sheffield United, and Davies wants more of the same going in to the hectic Christmas schedule.

“Everybody knows that we’ve had a bit of a blip but we’ve recovered well from it and the form we’re putting together - picking up the points and getting the wins rather than draws bodes well going into Christmas," said Davies post match.

“We need to be professional on and off the pitch in the next month or so. The momentum we’ve got, we’re definitely going in the right direction and we’re looking forward to going out there each week.”

Ben Davies more than earned his plaudits after this afternoon’s win with a resounding performance at the heart of the North End back four.

Going into the game, Davies and co faced a formidable strike force which included November’s Player of the Month, Leon Clarke, but PNE kept them at bay and restricted the Blades to limited opportunities in front of goal.

The performance led to Neil hailing Davies as the ‘stand out’ performer, yet the centre half felt it was the second half performance of the team which was key to the three points.

“We knew they had threats; they’re a good side with good players but we defended as a team, managed to shut them out and limit them to a few opportunities.

“I think the first half was slow, neither side created much really. But in the second half, we were much better. Got ourselves 1-0 up and could have even had made it two. Towards the end, we weren’t hanging on, but we had to defend. When you’re 1-0 up and the ref blows the final whistle, you know it’s a good result and that feels really good.

On the only goal of the game, Davies added: “He’s come up with a couple of goals now Jordan. We needed to break through so it was a good moment when a bit of quality came together. We could have had a couple more but we’ve got the win and the clean sheet."
