Our first clash with Derby County was only our second ever away game in the Football League, back in September 1888 and we continue that rivalry this weekend.
That day proved to be a good one for the Lilywhites, winning 3-2, but since the Rams’ move to Pride Park – other than our first ever trip there – results have been hard to come by.
So, Alex Neil’s side are expecting a tough game as they face Phillip Cocu’s men, but with confidence high, they will be looking to return from the final international break of the calendar year by adding to their tally of points.
Only the two Irishmen, Alan Browne and Sean Maguire, have been away, with the latter grabbing his first international goal last week and with the likes of Ben Pearson and Daniel Johnson back available, the manager has plenty of options for the game.
For the hosts, Wayne Rooney’s MLS career is over, but he is unavailable until January as he looks to fire County up the table, with the squad starting to put in place the plans of their newly recruited Dutch manager.
