Charity Football Tournament Raising Funds For PNECET’s Zanzibar-Bound Volunteers

14 July 2022

Preston North End Community and Education Trust [PNECET] is hosting a charity football tournament to raise funds for those who have signed up to volunteer on its life-changing trip to Zanzibar next April.

More than 20 volunteers, including four members of full-time PNECET staff, will make a difference to the lives of those in Zanzibar through teaching and coaching school children, and helping to improve and develop the facilities of local institutions, such as schools, through construction and renovation activities during the trip.

All volunteers heading to Zanzibar are individually fundraising to finance their trip to the Tanzanian island – located off the east coast of Africa – where they will be carrying out their volunteering duties to the benefit of the local community.

A number of fundraising activities and events are being planned to support them with their fundraising efforts, through PNECET, the first of which is a charity football tournament!

The five-a-side tournament will have a men’s and women’s competition on Sunday 24th July and all funds raised will be distributed evenly between all volunteers supporting the event on the day who are travelling to Zanzibar next year.

There is an entry fee of £50 a team, with the men’s tournament from 9.30am until 12 noon, and the women’s tournament from 12.30pm until 3pm. The event will be held at PlayFootball Preston.

Spectators will be welcome and further donations will be welcomed on the day to boost the fundraising total from the event.

PNECET’s Community Engagement Coordinator Alistair White, and Health and Wellbeing Officer Hannah White, are leading on the delivery of the volunteering voyage. Fellow staff, Deputy Chief Executive Harriet Creighton-Levis and Graphic Designer Sue Devaney, are also travelling to volunteer in Zanzibar next April.

Alistair White said: “We’re looking forward to supporting our volunteers with our first official fundraising event for our Zanzibar trip, with the charity football tournament. We hope it will be the first of many to help our kind-hearted volunteers raise the funds they need to help us complete life-changing work in Zanzibar next year.”

Hannah White added: “The football tournament should be a fantastic event and we’d encourage anyone looking to enter a team to get involved to celebrate the fantastic work we are planning in Zanzibar next year, all through the power and appeal of Preston North End and our shared passion of football.”
