North End head to the north east, looking to end a 48 year wait for a league win over Boro on Teeside.
The last time the Lilywhites were victorious against Middlesbrough on their own patch, came with ‘Rocket’ Ronnie Hildersley’s famous FA Cup goal at Ayresome Park in January 1987, so a win in any competition against Boro has been a while in coming.
Tony Pulis’ hosts occupy fifth place in the Championship table currently, sitting seven points above Alex Neil’s men, so a win for the visitors could close the gap, making this a game to savour.
The two teams have already played twice this season already, ending 2-2 and 1-1 in respective Carabao Cup and league games at Deepdale back in the Autumn and this third encounter should be no less close.
